Baseball Letters Added

It takes quite a few photos to build a sports image gallery, as you can image.  There are so many sports, plus 26 letters for each one (at least).  We keep plugging along with it.  If you haven’t looked, there are already oodles of options for you. However, getting 26 in each sport will take some creativity and time.

I attended an alumni BBQ for Campolindo High School’s baseball program this weekend.  First, it was so great to see players of all age groups gather, hug, share stories, and still smack that baseball.  Secondly, I was like a kid in a candy store.  Gloves and bats laying all around.  We were able to add several baseball letters to the gallery.  Lynn and I were  SO EXCITED when we were able to make this  WORLD SERIES letter art creation to celebrate the start of  World Series tomorrow.

Baseball letter art photography - by Spell-It-Out Photos

For those of you who don’t have baseball players, it’s not that easy to get shots of their equipment during practices or before games.  These guys are very superstitious.  They have set routines, warm-ups, and pregame good luck rituals.  Have you ever seen Pablo Sandoval bat (speaking of rituals)?  Anyway, the BBQ provided a very relaxed environment for me to nab a glove or two (or 10) and search for letters.  I love the above creation!  I hope you do too.

Scrabble Wall Art

Playing With Letters

A fun home decorating activity that you can do with your kids.

Looking to decorate a wall in your child’s room, but not sure what to do?  Try doing this letter art project together.  It’s fun and requires a bit of word play, but it’s not hard by any means.  Plus, it will look great and have personal meaning to your child.

Here is their creative project on how to create a scrabble board wall display using beautiful images.

Kids love to personalize their room.  Incorporate them into the design process and make their wall their own.

1)   Work together to think of words that are important to them.  Just start listing the words. Perhaps it’s activities, friends, or just adjectives that describe them.  You won’t use them all, just brainstorm.

2)   Then choose one that is most important.  This will be the anchor of your design.

3)   See what other words can intersect or can be added to one another.  It may take some time, but it will be fun.  Use graph paper (larger print) to help with the organization.

4)   Once you have decided on your scrabble board design.  Go on to www.spellitoutphotos.com and choose the letters.  The glass squares are offered in the photo gallery.

5)   When the letters arrive, all you have to do is center them on the wall and hang them with 1 inch space between them.  You’ve just done a fun family project and decorated a wall in the house.

Like the idea?  Try using it in other areas of your house.  Here are some ideas

-       Parents room

  • Words (love, beauty, believe, faith, dream, sleep)
  • Names
  • Places (honeymoon, places you’ve lived or want to go)

-       Kitchen – what do you like?

  • Wine (Chardonnay, vino, etc.)
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Cooking

-       General – What describes your family?

  • Try doing your last name and the first one of all family members

There are no limits, just be creative.

Decor Blogs

I have found a couple great home decor & decorating blogs that I love.  They are filled with ideas and photos on decor, organizing, projects, and tips.  I wanted to share them with our letter art fans.

The Lettered Cottage is a cute husband and wife blog.  They have fabulous decorating taste and a creative “redo” sense that seems to transform the ugliest of rooms into a picture perfect setting.

The Idea Room is filled with information to get your creative juices flowing.  It has everything from home decor to how to make monster juice for Halloween.  Their Facebook page  has wonderful links to creative projects.

The Inspired Room has wonderful visuals, which truly shows their creativity in using items in new ways.  I absolutely love their painted ladder as a wall shelf.

All 3 are filled with fresh ideas, warm and inviting photos, and friendly content.  They all make you feel like you are sitting in their kitchen with a cup of coffee sharing design tips.

Check em’ out.

From National, to local, to personal.

I try to keep posts on a positive note.  As I frequently say, “I like living in my happy bubble.”  However, this week seems to be filled with deep and meaningful anniversaries, so I am going to acknowledge them.  At times, facing things head on is necessary.

Share a little love - even during the hardest of times.

So, with that said, all three are true reminders to somehow fill your day with love, hug your loved ones, and spread a little love even during the of hardest times.

National – I was living 30 minutes from D.C. on 9/11.   It was a crazy and horrible day in history.  This week marks 10 years since that day.  Here’s to all of those touched by the tragic loss on
September 11th.

Local – Today marks one year of the San Bruno, CA  explosions.  A neighborhood that I walked in as a little girl,  blew up from faulty gas lines.  In a blink of an eye a neighborhood changed forever.   Here’s to all of those whose lives were changed by that day.

Personal – Two years ago this month, our community lost a beautiful woman to cancer.  Some are walking in the 3-day walk in her honor this weekend.  Others are just trying to feel her with us.  Anyone who knew her, will remember that she frequently used the phrase “Joy and laughter, laughter and joy”, which happens to be on one of our cards.  Here’s to Mary – a beautiful woman who always looked on the bright side of life.

So, what do we do?  We mourn and pay tribute. We hug our loved ones.  And we keep moving forward.  We make our tomorrow a little bit better than our today.

Simple things can make our day.

We just got an email this morning from one of our customers.  Tina said, ” I just received my frame- I absolutely LOVE it.  It came out better than I imagined.  Thank you so much!”

It was short, sweet, and a wonderful example of the reaction we get when someone receives one of our pieces.  Thank you Tina for making our day.

While going through your day today, remember to say a simple thank you or great job.  It will make someone’s day too.

Have a great one!

It’s a small world

The other day my husband went to talk with someone at his office and saw one of our pieces on their bulletin board.  What a small world.

It was promotional postcard that said SWIM FAST.  It was designed for a large swimming competition in our area.

What can you spell with sports equipment?

Our SPORTS gallery is here!

Are you ready for some football?

We are so excited to launch this new gallery.  Ever since we started Spell-It-Out Photos, we envisioned having a sports gallery.  Something fun, where customers could spell words and names using sports equipment or fields.  We loved the idea and started working on it from day one.  However, it definitely took longer than we anticipated.  Unlike our other gallery where we could simply go on a hike and find letters, it’s more difficult to find the right equipment or a decent field.  And it’s not like a baseball game or swim meet breaks out as we pass by so that we can take shots of the equipment.

These shots are hard to come by.  They are planned around games, meets, access, favors, and drive by discoveries.  Mostly, they are a labor of love.  All of our children play sports.  We all love sports.  So it only made sense that we would create a gallery that not only represents many of our favorite pass times, but somewhat documents our journey through parenthood.

Many of the shots are from our local fields, stadiums, and pools.  However, we are so fortunate to have great pro and college stadiums close by too.  For instance, some of the football letters in the photo above are from UC Berkeley and The University of Nevada Reno football stadiums.  Then a couple others are from our local Campolindo High School.

As for the gallery, it is a work in progress.  There is a good collection for you to choose from, but we will continue to add to the gallery.   If you don’t see a letter in the sport that you like, just ask us to find it.
